BSPB delivered 760 bird diverters to electricity distribution company in Bourgas 08/01/2013

Bird diverters will be placed for the first time in our country on potentially dangerous power lines. This will happen in the region of the Bourgas Lakes.
Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds delivered 760 bird diverters to EVN. This is one of the actions of the project “LIFE for the Bourgas Lakes” financed under EU LIFE+ program. In August and September the special devices will be placed on different power lines near Atanassovsko Lake. They will help birds see the power lines and prevent potentially fatal collisions.
One of the main reasons for bird mortality in Bulgaria and other countries is the collision with power lines. The experts of the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds observed that Storks, Pelicans and Imperial Eagles are the birds that are killed this way. These cases cause damages to the electricity distribution companies and their infrastructure. Last year 20 electric pylons near Atanassovsko Lake were insulated. Next month will be delivered and placed insulators on several dangerous electric pylons near Bourgas Lakes and will be installed the diverters.
