The first wintering birds arrive at the Burgas Lakes

Observations by BSPB teams during regular monitoring in September have sighted the first wintering birds’ arrival at the Burgas lakes. The team noted Tufted Ducks, Wigeon, Northern Pintail and Eurasian Teal feeding in the waters of the lakes. These species commonly roost at the lakes during the winter months. Their presence in the Burgas Lakes means that they are already preparing for the spring, when they will move on to breeding sites.

17 feathered inhabitants from the Protected Area "Poda" land in the Sea Casino of Burgas

In seven days, 17 feathered inhabitants from of the Protected Area "Poda" will land in the Sea Casino of Burgas. An exhibition of paintings, the "17 moments of spring - 17 feathered inhabitants of the protected area "Poda" will open in the Casino. The exhibition begins on the first of the “Days of Ecology’ conducted by the Burgas Municipality. The event is organized as part of the EU LIFE + program "Life for Burgas lakes" implemented by the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds.


The pelicans, storks, avocets and their friends invite you again this summer to stay with them and hope that you will help us make the Bourgas lakes a better place for everybody.

The Bulgarian Society for Protection of Birds has the pleasure to organize again the now traditional camp “Atanasovsko lake 2011” that has become part of the life of the Bourgas lakes.


The citizens of Bourgas have already collected 1000 BGN for their Pelican

The citizens of Bourgas collected 1000 BGN through charity bazaar of photographs of birds. This event was initiated by the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) and Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation (BBF) and gave the beginning of campaign for collection of funds for sculpture of a pelican which will become a symbol of Bourgas.

BSPB with the most beautiful stand at the first Green Festival in Bourgas

The team of the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds in Bourgas worked very hard during the weekend for presenting the good image of the Society to the citizens of Bourgas and the guests of the city. All the visitors of our stand at the firs Green Festival have been met with smiles and pleasant mood. Very popular became the pin badges of birds, mammals, reptiles and insects that we sell at the Festival.

Ecologists help the farmers in the region

How to apply for agro-ecological payments or compensatory payments for lands from Natura 2000 will be explained to the farmers in the region of the Bourgas Lakes by ecologists. The workshop is organized by Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) and Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation (BBF) with the help of District Direction “Agriculture” – Bourgas.

BSPB announces a competition for T-shirt of the Bourgas Lakes

Over 30 employees and volunteers of BSPB and RIEW – Bourgas will count wintering water birds in the region

For twenty second time ornithologists from Bulgarian Society for the protection of Birds (BSPB), Federation of Nature-conservation NGOs „Green Balkans” and experts form Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Waters – Bourgas (RIEW) will participate in Mid-winter counting of wintering birds between 13th and 15th of January. Counting of wintering birds will take place at the same time in most European countries.

The student camp at Atanassovsko lake – special tune in melody of life

The student camp at Atananassovsko lake is a special tune in the melody of life. This poetic statement is made by Tanya - one of the participants at camp „Atanassovsko Lake 2010”, organized by Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB).
