Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) announces photo competition “Seed of Love through your camera”. The competition will take place within the framework of the campaign for winter feeding of passerines called “Seed of Love”. The campaign has started in December with development and placement of birdfeeders for those small and not so small feathery friends that are around us in winter. These are well known birds as Great Tits, Sparrows, Woodpeckers, Redbreasts or Eurasian Jays. Their survival during cold months of the year is very difficult, especially when it is snowy outside.

This January the wintering birds in Bourgas are more numerous than the previous year

01/16/2013
This winter the water birds in Bourgas are more than last January as was revealed by the results of Mid-winter counting of wintering birds in the region. The experts and volunteers from the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds, RIEW - Bourgas, Balkani Wildlife Society, Bulgarian Ornithological Center and Federation of nature conservation NGOs “Green Balkans” registered 210 000 individuals from different species. The reason for the variety in data for the two years is the cold weather that brought the wintering Geese to the South. During the Mid-winter counting last January the weather was warm and sunny while this year the counters met severe meteorological conditions – raining and snowing, serious fogs and frozen water basins. The bad weather made the work of the counters very difficult but the action was completed successfully.
